TzedakahAs a congregation we currently focus on the need for food, heating aid, warm clothes for those who need them, and toys for children, directing funds to specific organizations in the Boston area. We solicit member donations at holiday times and then match these with money for charity in our budget. Fundraisers include an annual one-day Jewish film
festival and a charity walk. We also support Newton food pantries.
GBIO (Greater Boston Interfaith Organization)
The committee previously worked with CMM and last year began working with the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization instead. GBIO is a coalition of diverse religious congregations that works together to effect change on issues of common interest. We are
part of a subgroup of Newton congregations working on the issues of aging, youth stress, and affordable housing.
Kids4PeaceKids4Peace is an interfaith organization of Jews, Christians, and Muslims aimed at fostering friendships and creating peace. Each summer they host children of the three faiths from Jerusalem
and the U.S. who spend two weeks in the U.S. in joint activities and then maintain connection for at least several years after the summer program. We are exploring ways to become involved along
with the congregation at the Lutheran Church of the Newtons, where Shir Hadash meets.
